On May 18th afternoon, SUN gave an academic report titled “Three Dimensions of Supercomputer” on his lecture, which was hosted by Professor CHEN Huaping, Executive Dean of School of Computer Science and Technology.
Around three dimensions of the development of high-performance computer---from high-speed, high-throughput to wide application areas, SUN presented a historical vision of the whole supercomputer development on the lecture. It only took more than 20 years for our country to develop supercomputer from the phase far lagging behind the developed countries, catching up with their steps, to surpassing them nowadays. With the constant wide-ranging and in-depth application of supercomputer, a multitude of opportunities and challenges are brought in for both academia and industrial circles.
After the lecture, Director SUN held a meeting with the leaders and parts of professors of School of Computer Science and Technology, reaching manifold consensus in Elite Class construction, prospects as jointly offering professional courses to graduate and undergraduate students, and scientific research cooperation. Meanwhile, the meeting also put forward the next specific move plan and implementation measures.
