From July 22 to 26, the “Data Mining” course of Dragon Star Program started at USTC, given by Prof. XIONG Hui, the professor of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. This program attracted not only students in schools of USTC, but also more than 150 teachers and students from famed universities of US, like Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, The Johns Hopkins University, and well-known domestic universities such as National Taiwan University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Harbin Institute of Technology.
A group of prestigious researchers in computer field of US was invited to Dragon Star Program every year, systematically teaching one of computer-related courses at Chinese universities. The School of Computer Science and Technology had succeeded in the declaration of Dragon Star Program for years and ran the courses into summer seminars, making it a positive role in talent development efforts.
“Data Mining” course primarily focused on discovering useful information from a massive amount of data in the context of big data. It helped concrete construction of bridges between data mining and business applications within production, introducing relevant knowledge and developed techniques in data mining to students with impressive lecturing and funny cases.
