The 3rd China Computer Federation (CCF) BigData Conference was held in Hefei, October 20-21. The conference was hosted by CCF Expert Committee on BigData, University of Science and Technology of China, and Anhui University, and co-hosted by Anhui Collaborative Innovation Center of BigData. Professor Guojie Li, who is the director of CCF Expert Committee on BigData and an Academician of Chinese Engineering Academy, served as the honorary chairman of the conference. Professor Guoliang Chen, an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Hong Mei, the Vice President of Shanghai Jiaotong University, chaired the conference. The conference was also co-chaired by Enhong Chen of University of Science and Technology of China, Jianmin Wang of Tsinghua University, Nong Xiao of National University of Defense Technology, and Bin Hu of Lanzhou University. The opening ceremony was held on October 20 and hosted by Enhong Chen.
Professor Xianyi Zhou, the Vice President of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), gave a speech on behalf of the organizers during the opening ceremony. He said that USTC devoted efforts to the development of computer science. BigData is an important area of computer science research. This conference brought opportunities for students and staffs of USTC to understand the latest research in BigData area. Zhou believed that USTC would benefit from the conference.
Professor Qunjing Wang, the Vice President of Anhui University, greeted and thanked the participants in his speech.
CCF Expert Committee on BigData devoted itself to promote the development of BigData, said by Professor Xueqi Cheng on behalf of CCF and the committee. It leaded the construction of platforms for academic communication, technological cooperation, and data sharing. It also served as a consultant of government for policy making. The annually published white paper on BigData had an in-depth influence in academia, industry, and governmental decisions.
Professor Guoliang Chen introduced the sections of the conference, including invited talks, keynotes, forums, and posters. Chen addressed that novel theories, technologies, and applications were presented in the talks. He announced the opening of the conference in the end.
Four forums were hosted on topics of intelligent analysis and learning, data protection and privacy preservation, systems for BigData, and computation on BigData. The accepted papers cover topics of system infrastructure, efficient and scalable algorithms, security and quality control, data mining and its application. The papers were presented via talks and posters. The best paper award, the best student paper award, and the best application paper award were announced.
Invited talks were given by Professor Zongben Xu of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhihua Zhou of Nanjing University, Dr. Haifeng Wang of Baidu, and Xiaodong Zhang of the Ohio State University.
Keynotes were given by Yu Hu of iFlytek, Jian Chen of Paratera, and Huaiming Song of Sugon .
The annual congress and election of CCF Expert Committee on BigData were co-located with the CCF BigData Conference. Professor Hong Mei was elected as the new director of CCF Expert Committee on BigData. Professor Enhong Chen, Professor Xiaodong Zhang, Pingjue Che (Vice President of Alibaba), and Professor Bin Hu were elected as vice directors.

In recent years, BigData has become a hot topic attracting attentions from multiple areas. It represents the leading development of global IT industry, and also pushes the reform and revolution of other industries. The CCF Expert Committee on BigData is founded to face the challenges and opportunities brought by BigData. The CCF BigData Conference has become one of the leading academic conferences on BigData in China.
This year, the conference received 371 submissions and attracted 640 participants, which hit a new record high. Scholars and experts in BigData area all over China joined this conference. The conference brought insights in the future development of BigData research and industry.
