The 2014 congress of Machine Learning Committee of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), hosted by the School of Computer Science, was held in USTC, April 17th. Over 20 committee members from Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Institute of Computing Technology of CAS, participated in the congress. The congress was chaired by Professor Enhong Chen.
The committee discussed the China Conference on Machine Learning 2013 (CCML’13) and arrangement for CCML’15. Routines and recent works on machine learning were also discussed on the congress.

Professor Jibao Gu made the opening speech. Professor Zhihua Zhou of Nanjing University, on behalf of the committee, made a speech on the history of the committee and its connection with USTC. Professor Yang Gao concluded the work and experience of CCML’13. The committee discussed the working plans in 2014 and 2015. Professor Tianrui Li proposed the program for CCML’15.
Participants of the congress
CAAI is the only national association on artificial intelligence in China. The Machine Learning Committee was founded in 1991, as the first few committees of CAAI. The committee focuses on the development of theory and application of machine learning in China. Six annual congresses have ever been held. In this year, the committee consists of 34 members, most of which are leading scientists in related fields, including three Changjiang Scholars, five winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and two IEEE Fellows. The congress is held for every two years.
