The Fifth International Conference on Swarm Intelligence (ICSI’ 2014) was held in Hefei, 17th - 19th, Oct, 2014. This conference was held jointly by University of Science and Technology of China and Peking University, organized by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The technical co-organizers included IEEE CIS, WFSC, and INNS. Its proceedings would be published by Springer in the series of LNCS.
More than 90 attendants from both home and overseas participated in this conference. The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice Prof. Wenjian Luo. The executive dean, Prof. Huaping Chen, from School of Computer Science, USTC, Prof. Ying Tan, from Peking University, Prof. Yaochu Jin from University of Surrey, and Prof. Yuhui Shi from The University of Liverpool delivered the opening speeches. Prof. Yaochu Jin and Prof. Yew-Soon ONG, from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, delivered keynote speeches. Scholars discussed the applications of computational intelligence, machine learning, fuzzy methods, and optimization in practical problems.
